Woordstudie

anatolē,

Het woord “en te anatolè” (αστερα εν τη ανατολη) in Mat. 2:2, wordt door diverse Bijbelvertalingen met “in het Oosten” vertaald. Nu is de betekenis van het woord ανα−τολη “opkomst”, en wel de opkomst van de Zon en de Maan (m 4, v.-SOCR., HDT. 4, 8) danwel van sterren (AESCH.), als tweede betekenis wordt gegeven “het Oosten” (HDT. 7, 58, POL.) , terwijl ook als betekenis de oorsprong van rivieren wordt gegeven.
