δῆλος, -η, -ον [in LXX for אוּר ^H217, etc. ;] 1. visible. 2. clear to the mind, evident: Mt 26:73; δ. (sc. ἐστίν), seq. ὅτι, I Co 15:27, Ga 3:11.†

SYN.: φανερός ^G5318, with ref. to outward appearance, manifest as opp. to concealed; δ. with ref. to inner perception, evident, known, understood.

(also Doric dialect, Archytas Tarentinus Philosophus 1, Theocritus Poeta Bucolicus 11.79, etc., and Aeol., compare πρόδηλος) , η, ον, also ος, ον Euripides Tragicus “Medea” 1197 : Epic dialect δέελος:
__I properly visible, conspicuous, δέελον δ᾽ ἐπὶ σῆμά τ᾽ ἔθηκε Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 10.466, but:
__II commonly, clear to the mind, manifest, νῦν δ᾽ ἤδη τόδε δ. Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 20.333, etc.
__II.2 δ. εἰμι is frequently used with participle, δ. ἐστιν ἀλγεινῶς φέρων i.e. it is clear that he takes it ill, Sophocles Tragicus “Philoctetes” 1011, compare “OT” 673, 1008, etc. ; οἳ ἂν δ. ὦσι μὴ ἐπιτρέψοντες who are clearly not going to permit, Thucydides Historicus 1.71; with ὡς, δ. ἐστιν ὥς τι δρασείων κακόν Sophocles Tragicus “Ajax” 326; δ. ἔσεσθε ὡς ὀργιζόμενοι Lysias Orator 12.90, compare Xenophon Historicus “Anabasis” 1.5.9 ; δ. ὁρᾶσθαι.. ὤν being as was plainly to be seen, Euripides Tragicus “Orestes” 350: with ὅτι and a Verb, δ. ἐστιν ὅτι.. ἀκήκοεν Aristophanes Comicus “Plutus” 333; δ. ἡ οἰκοδομία ὅτι κατὰ σπουδὴν ἐγένετο Thucydides Historicus 1.9; δ. ἔσται ὅτι.. Lysias Orator 12.50: sometimes the participle or relative clause must be supplied, καταγελᾷς μου, δ. εἶ (i.e. καταγελῶν) Aristophanes Comicus “Aves” 1407, compare prev. author “Lys.” 919 ; δῆλοι δέ (i.e. οὐ μένοντες) Thucydides Historicus 5.10.
__II.3 δῆλον ποιεῖν show plainly, τινὶ ὅτι.. prev. author 6.34, etc. : with participle, δῆλον ἐποιήσατε.. μηδίσαντες prev. author 3.64.
__II.4 δῆλον (i.e. ἐστί) it is manifest, αὐτὸς πρὸς αὑτοῦ· δῆλον Sophocles Tragicus “Ajax” 906; ἀλγεινά, Πρόκνη, δῆλον prev. author “fragment” 585; ἐκ πίθω ἀντλεῖς, δῆλον Theocritus Poeta Bucolicus 10.13 ; δῆλον δέ, to introduce a proof, followed by γάρ, Thucydides Historicus 1.11, Aristoteles Philosophus “de Coloribus” 799a5, etc.; δῆλον γάρ Sophocles Tragicus “Fragmenta” 63; δῆλον ὅτι Thucydides Historicus 3.38, etc.; τὰ Κύρου δῆλον ὅτι οὕτως ἔχει Xenophon Historicus “Anabasis” 1.3.9, compare “Cyr.” 2.4.24, etc. , see at {δηλονότι}: in plural, δῆλα δή, δ. δ. καὶ ταῦτα Plato Philosophus “Crito” 48b; ἢ δ. δ. ὅτι..; prev. author “Prt.” 309a, etc.: hence as adverb, usually written δηλαδή (which see).
__II.5 adverb δήλως is rejected by Attic dialect, 2nd c.AD(?): Pollianus Epigrammaticus 6.207.
__III δῆλοι, οἱ, Urim, LXX.1Ki.28.6, al. (Cf. δέατο.)
