  succeeding a person in a thing:
__1 with dative person et genitive of things, δ. Μεγαβάζῳ τῆς στρατηγίης his successor in the command, Herodotus Historicus 5.26, compare 1.162, etc. ; θνητοῖς.. διάδοχοι μοχθημάτων succeeding them in, i.e. relieving them from, toils, Aeschylus Tragicus “Prometheus Vinctus” 464, compare 1027; σοι τῶνδε διάδοχος δόμων Euripides Tragicus “Alcestis” 655.
__2 with genitive of things only, δ. τῆς Ἀστυόχου ναυαρχίας succeeding to his command, Thucydides Historicus 8.85; δ. τῆς κληρονομίας Isocrates Orator 19.43; τῆς φιλοσοφίας Epicurus Philosophus “Fragmenta” 217.
__3 with genitive person only, φέγγος ὕπνου δ. sleep's successor light, Sophocles Tragicus “Philoctetes” 867.
__4 with dative person only, δ.
