  genitive ἱμάντος (not ἱμᾶς, ἱμᾶντος Hdn.Gr. 2.939): Epic dialect dative plural ἱμάντεσσι:— leathern strap or thong, Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 10.262, etc.; ἱμάντα βοός 3.375; βοέους ἱμάντας 22.397: mostly in pl., in various senses:
__a traces, 10.475, 499, al.
__b reins, 23.324 , etc.; τμητοῖς ἱμᾶσι Sophocles Tragicus “Electra” 747, compare Euripides Tragicus “Hippolytus” 1222.
__c straps on which the body of the chariot was hung, Ilias Homerus Epicus “Illiad” 5.727.
__d lash of a whip, formed by several thongs, 23.363.
