** ἱστορέω, -ῶ (< ἵστωρ, one learned or skilled in) [in LXX: I Es 1:33, 42*;] 1. c. acc. rei, to inquire into, learn by inquiry. 2. C. acc. pers., to inquire of or about. 3. to narrate, record. 4. In late writers, to visit, become acquainted with: Ga 1:18 (v. Ellic., in l., and cf. MM, Exp., xv).†

  (ἵστωρ) inquire into or about a thing, τι Herodotus Historicus 2.113, Aeschylus Tragicus “Prometheus Vinctus” 632, etc.; περί τινος Polybius Historicus 3.48.12 ; also, inquire about a person, τινα Sophocles Tragicus “Oedipus Tyrannus” 1150, 1156; ὅδ᾽ εἴμ᾽ Ὀρέστης.. ὃν ἱστορεῖς Euripides Tragicus “Orestes” 380, compare “Tr.” 261: followed by relat. clause, Αἴγισθον ἔνθ᾽ ᾤκηκεν ἱστορῶ Sophocles Tragicus “Electra” 1101.

__II give an account of what one has learnt, record, τοὺς βίους τῶν χερσαίων Theophrastus Philosophus “Historia Plantarum” 4.13.1, compare Lucianus Sophista “Hist.Conscr.” 7, etc. ; ἱστοροῦσί τινες.. it is stated that.. , Dioscorides (Dioscurides) Medicus 4.75, etc. :—frequently in passive, ὁ καρπὸς.. ἐπιλημπτικοὺς ἱστορεῖται ὠφελεῖν prev. author 1.83; περί τινος ἱστορεῖται διότι Philodemus Gadarensis Epigrammaticus “Mus.” p.18K.; ἱστορεῖται περὶ Γοργοῦς τοιοῦτον Plutarchus Biographus et Philosophus 2.227e, compare prev. author “Cic.” 1, Aelianus “Tactica - Griechische Kriegsschriftsteller” 34.3, etc. ; Ἀπολλόδωρος εἴρηκεν ἀπελθόντας Ὕαντας ἱστορεῖσθαι are represented as having gone, 1st cStrabo Geographus 10.3.4 ; τῶν ἱστορουμένων οὐδενὸς ἧττον πολυπράγμων the most in dustrious person on record, Philodemus Gadarensis Epigrammaticus “Mus.” p.108K.
