μεθύω ῠ,
  (μέθυ), only present and imperfect: future and aorist active belong to μεθύσκω (μεθύσας is falsa lectio in 4th-5th c.AD(?): Nonnus Epicus “Dionysiaca” 28.211 ; μεθύσαντας is falsa lectio for -τες in Plutarchus Biographus et Philosophus 2.239a), aorist being supplied by passive of μεθύσκω:— to be drunken with wine, νευστάζων κεφαλῇ, μεθύοντι ἐοικώς Odyssea Homerus Epicus “Odyssey” 18.240 ; μεθύων, opposed to νήφων, Theognis Elegiacus 478, 627, compare Alcaeus Lyricus “Supp.” 4.12, Pindarus Lyricus “Fragmenta.” 128, Aristophanes Comicus “Plutus” 1048, “PHal.” 1.193 (3rd c.BC), etc. ; μ. ὑπὸ τοῦ οἴνου Xenophon Historicus “Symposium” 2.26 ; τὸ μεθύειν drunkenness, Antiphanes Comicus 187.2, Alexander Rhetor 43; τὸ μ. πημονῆς λυτήριον Sophocles Tragicus “Fragmenta” 758.
