Woordstudie
sinapi,
De naam mosterd komt van het Latijnse mustum “druivensap”, en is dus direct afgeleid van het gebruik als medicijn. In de Bijbel komt σίναπι sinapi in alle gevallen voor in combinatie met κόκκος kokkos “zaad, pit, bes” en dan als beeld voor iets zeer kleins dat kan uitgroeien tot iets zeer groots. Het woord σίναπι sinapi kan overigens op verschillende manieren gespeld worden. Andere schrijfwijzen zijn sinapu, sinēpi, sinēpu(s) en sinapis.1 Hiervan afgeleid in het Latijnse sinapi, het Duits Senf, Engels senep, Italiaans senape, Zweeds senap en het Jiddisch זענעפֿט zeneft. In het modern Hebreeuws חרדל,
