στάσις, -εως, ἡ (< ἵστημι), [in LXX chiefly for עמד H5975, its parts and derivatives, also for רִיב H7378 (Pr 17:14), etc. (v. Deiss., BS, 158 f.) ;] 1. a standing, place, status: σ. ἔχειν (Polyb., v, 5, 3; and cf. Lat. locum habere), He 9:8. 2. insurrection, sedition: Mk 15:7, Lk 23:19, 25, Ac 19:40 24:5. 3.
