שְׁבִיסִים m. net works, reticula (Varro, De Ling. Lat. iv. 19), used of the head ornament of Hebrew women, Isa. 3:18. LXX. τὰ ἐµπλόκια. Root שָׁבַס which see.
N. Guil. Schrœder (De Vest. Mul. Hebr. cap. 2), compares the Arabic شبيسة (diminut. from شمس sun, by interchange of the letters, مر and ب ) and understands little suns, or studs resembling suns worn on the neck, and this would seem to be supported by there following immediately שַׂהֲרֹנִים little moons; but I prefer the former interpretation.
